PHE10. OpenPHoto Cuenca
From 11th of June to 25th of July of 2010
During June and July, the Antonio Saura Foundation will, for the third consecutive year, be the headquarters of the PHOTOESPAÑA International Festival of Photography and Visual Arts, in its 2010 edition.
The Casa Zavala will host three exhibitions produced in collaboration with different embassies and cultural institutes that make up the OpenPHoto section of the afore-mentioned festival:
Gerardo Suter, through the Mexican Institute in Spain, gathers together 60 pieces - 55 photographs and 5 videos - around the subject of the city. Taken from 1983 through to current day, these pieces display his sense of wonderment before the multiple layers of time, culture and space that make up the visual territory of major cities. With a spirit similar to that of archaeologists, Suter journeys through the pre-hispanic cities with a passion similar to that which takes him to the current megalopolis that occupies the Metropolitan Area of the Valley of Mexico.
The exhibition of Tamara Lorenz (Germany, 1972) which took place as part of "Gute Aussichten (Good Prospects) - young German photographers", is a project that promotes up and coming photographers by accepting in its annual competition final projects from higher schools of photography. Apart from the work presented by Tamara Lorenz in Cuenca, a selection of work presented at the headquarters of the Goethe-Institut in Madrid will also be on show.
"Battle of shadows" is the title of this collective sample of Portuguese photography from the 50's from the National Museum of Contemporary Art-Museo do Chiado of Lisbon, struggling between the concept of art for art's sake or the search for a social and humanistic culture.
