The Collection
A selection of the diverse and multifaceted artistic work of Antonio Saura is permanently exhibited on the first floor of Casa Zavala. They consist of original paintings on canvas, paper or card, as well as drawings, original graphic art and diverse objects that cover the basic iconography of the artist and provide the visitor with an extensive view of the most recurrent plastic motifs throughout his long career.
The Antonio Saura Foundation collection is made up of a growing number of works of art, documents, books and objects, deposited at the Casa Zavala, headquarters of the Institution.
The origins of these materials as well as the type of deposit are very diverse. The greater part of the collection is made up of temporary and permanent cessions from private and institutional patrons (Mª Angeles Saura, Carlos Saura, Emilio Catalá, Hans Meinke, Pierre Canova, the Castilla-La Mancha Regional Government and the Council of Cuenca). At the same time, the foundation has bought a number of Antonio Saura’s original works of art and has also received donations from friends, collaborators and other artists who have passed through the Casa Zavala.
The majority of the collection is, logically, dedicated to the artistic and literary work of Antonio Saura, whose principal plastic themes are reflected in the depths of the Institution through oils, paintings and drawings on different media and in different formats, an extensive representation of the original graphic art produced by Antonio Saura, illustrations, posters and diverse objects.
Other documents such as letters, catalogues, calendars and photographs complete the collection hosted by the Antonio Saura Foundation in Cuenca.
