Legal Status

The constitution of the Antonio Saura Private Foundation was registered in Cuenca on the 16th of December of 1995.

Despite the controversy aroused with the clear intention of delegitimizing the institution created at the express wish of Antonio Saura, successive rulings by the Castilla-La Mancha High Court of Justice in 2003 and the Supreme Court in 2005, recognised that the Antonio Saura Foundation is a completely legal institution from a judicial view-point, legality to which must be added recognition of the moral legitimacy of the institution created in Cuenca at the express and consistent desire of Antonio Saura himself.

In the light of the misrepresentations or ill-intentioned versions regarding the history and legal status of the Antonio Saura Foundation in Cuenca, and with the sole purpose of manifesting what are the indisputable facts, we herewith publish a summary of the legal history of the foundation and an extract from the main judicial decisions taken in this regard.
